Frequently asked questions

How does an E-foil work?

Basically the hydrofoil wing creates lift in the water as the speed is increased from the propulsion motor. The motor is powered by a large lithium battery that can last up to two hours. The speed and power is controlled by a wireless bluetooth remote you hold in your hand. Once basic throttle skills are acquired, the speed creates enough lift for the board to come out of the water. Its a magic carpet!

Prerequisites?

There are NO Prerequisites for taking an E-Foil Lesson besides being able to swim. Riders with board sports experience will learn quicker. However, eFoiling is surprisingly user friendly and pretty much ANYONE can learn rapidly without any previous water sports experience.

What's in a lesson?

Your instructor will meet you at the scheduled place and time with the appropriate gear for your lesson. We start with a discussion about how to safely operate the eFoil in the surrounding area and go through the controls, operation, and eFoil components. Next we'll practice on the beach/shore everything you will need to know to get up on the eFoil and ride, Then we'll get out on the water and put what you just learned in practice: mounting the board, controlled riding in the prone position, transitioning to you knees, sitting up, moving to your feet, and touch-and-goes flying the foil. All  while your instructor moves you along at your own best pace with corrections, including best practices and techniques to improve your ride and experience.

Where does eFoil Sarasota do lessons?

We can do lessons on the beach, the Intercoastal Waterway, or on inland fresh water. The best learning experience will be provided at a location with adequate water depth, smoother water surface conditions, and lighter crowds. Naturally, these can be driven by weather, but good conditions can be located in most bodies of water as long as you are flexible about the exact time (so we can plan around weather trends) and location (so we can plan around crowds). Your instructor will consider your location preferences, and will send a location pin or address you can enter in your favorite cell phone app for where to meet.

What do I need to bring?

Generally what you would normally bring for a day on the water. Your instructor will have everything needed to make your experience great. A helmet and life jacket are mandatory for all lessons and are provided. No exceptions.

Our suggestions:

Hat

Sunglasses with a leash

Sunscreen

Towel

Bottled water

Booties/water shoes (bring you own or ask for a loaner set)

Helmet  (if you have your own, bring it!)

Wetsuit (if needed)

Be ready to share the stoke!

How do I tell the difference between old Lift models and new Lift models?

Lift was the first company to design, build, and market the eFoil back in 2017. They also hold the US patents for eFoils and provide licensing for a fee to other eFoil builders. Lift continues to innovate, providing better, stronger, easier learning on progressive model releases. The first model (Lift or E1) had a squared off front that comes to three points instead of the newer rounded front. It was offered in white and clear gloss showing the dark carbon fiber construction.  The second model (Lift 2 or E2) was available in white and blue with stripes running from tip to tail; and a gloss black finish. The current generation Lift eFoil (Lift 3 or E3) is available in a carbon fiber construction in brushed blue, brushed white, and a matte black with carbon flake. Also new are Lift 3 F fiberglass construction available in Vermillion and Mint, along with a host of new accessory front and rear wing options, battery size options, folding and standard props, and the new Lift 3 Elite model coming soon!
